These tests were originally meant to decrease the incidence of sex-linked hereditary diseases. Many couples may chose the sex of the embryo to avoid these hereditary problems.
The choice of the embryo’s gender may also be done for personal reasons to balance the boys and girls in a family. It may often be the only reason for doing IVF / ICSI.
