Toxoplasmosis
Many women ask us about toxoplasmosis, the extent to which it causes miscarriage and recurrent miscarriage, and whether it is necessary to get rid of cats and pets at home.
We answer these questions as follows:
Toxoplasma is an organism transmitted to humans from animal feces and waste if it contaminates human food, and it is not specifically linked to cats.
If a pregnant woman becomes infected with this organism at a certain stage of pregnancy, it may lead to miscarriage or to certain congenital abnormalities in the fetus. Infection with this organism does not recur because a person becomes immune after the first infection, and therefore it does not cause recurrent miscarriages.
When the IgG Toxoplasma immunity test is elevated, this reassures us that the patient is immune and protected against this organism, and there is no need to use any antibiotics in this case.
There is no need to get rid of pets at home, as they are usually clean and their waste does not mix with the household food.
