Menstruation and Fasting
One of the main concerns for women during the month of Ramadan is menstrual irregularity. Women often face difficulties in determining the number of fasting days when the menstrual cycle becomes irregular or when the number of days increases. This increase can be divided into two cases:
Istihada: This means the appearance of small drops of blood or brown or bloody discharge before or after the usual number of menstrual days, and it does not invalidate fasting. In the case of istihada, a woman should only break her fast during the normal number of days of her menstrual period, then perform ghusl and continue fasting even if those discharges continue.
Bleeding: This means the passage of large amounts of blood before or after the normal menstrual period, and the amount of blood is often equal to or greater than menstrual blood. In this case, the woman should break her fast, as bleeding is treated like a wound or illness and is therefore considered one of the invalidators of fasting.
