Fasting and Pregnancy
Pregnant women often wonder whether they can fast during the month of Ramadan and whether fasting may harm the health of the fetus or affect the important nutrients it receives for its normal growth and development inside the womb.
It has been medically established that fasting does not pose a risk to the health of the pregnant mother or the fetus; rather, it is a spiritual and psychological exercise. From the first month of pregnancy until delivery, fasting does not affect fetal growth, provided that the mother does not suffer from illnesses and consumes a balanced and varied diet after breaking the fast. All of this depends on the pregnant woman and her ability to fast. The doctor’s opinion is the deciding factor regarding whether the woman can fast or not, as the pregnant woman is granted permission to break the fast if this is based on medical advice out of concern for her health and the health of her fetus.
