Content from the article

Section 01

Semen Analysis

At least 40% of delayed pregnancy cases are caused, at least partially, by the husband.

Section 02

Semen analysis is the simplest and most accurate way to determine a man’s reproductive potential.

Section 03

There are important variables that are assessed during semen analysis, and values considered normal indicate that the person has a normal reproductive potential. However, if the test results are below the normal range, this does not necessarily mean an inability to conceive, but it does mean that the chances of natural pregnancy are lower than the usual level.

Section 04

The most important variables studied in semen analysis are:

Section 05

Semen volume

Section 06

Sperm concentration

Section 07

Sperm motility

Section 08

Percentage of sperm with normal morphology

Section 09

The presence of cells indicating inflammation of the reproductive tract

Section 10

The viscosity of the semen

Section 11

The semen sample is provided in a special room in the laboratory or fertility center.

Section 12

If the person wishes to provide the sample at home, there is no objection, provided that it is delivered to the laboratory within half an hour and kept at room temperature.

Section 13

It is preferable to abstain from intercourse or masturbation for two to five days before giving the sample in order to obtain a fresh sample for testing.

Section 14

Abstaining from intercourse for more than two weeks leads to reduced sperm motility.

Section 15

It is preferable not to use soap or creams during masturbation because of their effect on semen.
